Leon:

Jarvis Liu

It’s Club Time!
Yes we are trying again! Durring the semester, earlier this year, we introduced SAEP Student Clubs. It did not catch on. So we did a little thinking, made a few changes and are ready to try again!
But you may be asking; “What’s an SAEP Student Club?” Keep reading to find out!
In America, Students Clubs are found in every highschool program. Although Clubs are not mandatory for graduation, they are often considered by Universities to be extremely important for a well rounded education. They provide many learning opportunities not always found in classrooms, such as, developing social skills, responsibility, self-reliance, and more!
Clubs are designed and run for students, by students. It is a great way for student to share in common interests and hobbies. Each week the clubs will meet and do a variety of activities. Depending on the type of club will determine the activities the students might do. Book clubs often have discussions about an assigned book for reading. In Science Club students might help each other with homework or do some fun and interesting experiments. And there are clubs like the school paper, and spirit club, and even a yearbook club! These clubs let students shape their school experience.
  Where Are They Now?
This month we had a chance to catch up with Leon Lei Yujing, a 2014 graduate, who is attending Plymouth State University (PSU). Leon is busy with his studies as he begins his sophomore (2nd) year at PSU. We want to thank Leon (see photo on translation page) for taking time out of his busy schedule to answer a few of our questions.
SAEP: “First could you tell us, where is PSU located?”
Leon: “It’s a small University located on the East Coast of America, in New Hampshire. It’s about 1.5 hours drive from the city of Boston.”
SAEP: “Can you tell us a little about the campus and the environment there?”
Leon: “The first thing; I couldn’t believe the air! It’s so clean and the sky is really blue! It is great but the winter gets too cold! It’s also really quiet! It was strange to see so few people, not like Chengdu.”
SAEP: “You are starting your 2nd year at PSU. Is there anything you miss about China?”
Leon: “Yes, THE FOOD! I like western food, but I don’t want it every day. Sometimes you want the food you ate growing up.”
SAEP: “Do they have Chinese restaurants there?”
Leon: “They have restaurants that are supposed to be Chinese, but the food is bad, it is nothing like the food back home.”
SAEP: “Haha, I understand. I feel the same about the western food here in China. So could you tell us, do you feel SAEP helped you to get where you are now?”
Leon: Oh yes. SAEP did so much to help me! Especially, when I arrived in Boston, Dan and Misha gave me an airport pickup and treated me with Sichuan Cuisine, which made me feel less homesick. I treated them as my family, which encouraged me to study harder and harder. My English improved with the help of SAEP, and in addition, SAEP provided me with much more help in other aspects. Many thanks for SAEP teachers, and I promise I will study harder.
